The son of Delhi’s first chief minister was arrested by the economic offences wing of Delhi Police for allegedly duping people by selling non-existent land and property. Police said the accused, Ajay Chaudhary, is the son of Congress veteran Chaudhary Brahm Prakash and used to pose as the director of a real estate company to strike deals with businessmen.
Sources said the man had sold land worth a few crores in prime locations, including Kailash Colony, on forged documents. He used to lure his victims by offering lucrative deals and then disappear after taking the full settlement money. He even used political influence to set up an office where he employed a few people who helped him pull off the deals.
Police said his victims included other Congress members who filed a civil case against him in 2009 after he failed to give them possession of their property. Chaudhary went underground after that.
Last week, he was arrested from his south Delhi home following a court order, and on Saturday, he was sent to two-day custody.
