Unitech Homebuyers Protest ‘2-yr Delay’ – Times of India – 14-Dec-2014

More than 70 flat owners of the Unitech Vistas project in Sector 70 staged a protest against the developer over non-delivery, on Saturday. Launched in 2009, the project was supposed to be delivered in 2012. However, buyers are still waiting for the possession. Neeta Singhal, who booked an apartment in 2009, has the paid full amount. She is, however, currently living with her in-laws, as the project has been delayed. “It is the only investment I have made in my life. I wanted to move into a spacious house and a gated colony to provide a secure environment to my children. However, even after five years, we are living with my parents-in-law. To reduce the interest burden, we decided to take a loan and pay the full amount. I never knew it will turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life,” Singhal said. Buyers have also alleged that the construction has been suspended for the last six months at the site. “In the last six months, whenever we visited the site, only a couple of guards could be seen. No construction work is going on,” said Monica, president of the Vistas Flat Owners Association. The flat owners met the developer several times but couldn’t get him to restart the construction. “We therefore decided to protest in front of their office. Unfortunately, nobody from the senior management met us,” she said. Another buyer, Subbo Bhattacharya, alleged the developer doesn’t have required clearances for apartments in Blocks C, D and E of the project.

An official spokesperson from Unitech said, “The project is in an advanced stage of completion and the process of handing over of units in a phase-wise manner will start from next year. In addition, for any delay, penalty will be paid to the allottees as per their buyer’s agreement.”
